The postdoctoral position is part of the IASO: Enhancing Surgical Precision with Advanced Camera Systems and Artificial Intelligence project at Concordia University’s Immersive and Creative Technologies (ICT) Lab, led by Dr. Charalambos Poullis in collaboration with THINK Surgical Inc. The project focuses on developing next-generation computer vision and AI technologies to improve the accuracy, reliability, and real-time performance of robotic surgical systems.
The Postdoctoral Fellow will play a central role in advancing research on real-time camera calibration, AI-driven sensor fusion, and 3D reconstruction algorithms. They will oversee the technical implementation of advanced algorithms, guide PhD and MSc students, and ensure the scientific quality and integration of results into practical, industry-ready systems.
The position offers a collaborative and multidisciplinary environment, combining academic innovation with industrial application. The team includes faculty and students from Concordia University, alongside engineers and researchers from THINK Surgical who provide access to proprietary robotic systems, datasets, and mentoring. Regular joint meetings and hands-on testing at THINK Surgical’s facilities ensure that the research directly contributes to real-world surgical challenges.
The postdoc will receive $45,000 annually, funded through an NSERC Alliance Advantage grant, with additional resources provided by Concordia and THINK Surgical. The position provides an opportunity to publish in top-tier venues, gain experience in translational AI and medical imaging research, and contribute to innovations that will shape the future of robotic-assisted surgery in Canada and beyond.
